And as the pace of change accelerates, our challenge is to look beyond the short-term for solutions that meet the demands of customers and society in the longer-term. That's why we're committed to doing the right thing and encouraging others to do the right things too.
Here are just some of the ways we’re doing this:
Learning from the past and looking to the future
By studying the interiors and floors of 20 years ago, we can try to imagine how these will look 20 years from now. We then ask ourselves:
- What materials will be most economically viable?
- How will designers respond to changes in the prevailing social conditions?
- How will shortages of raw materials, such as oil, affect our market place?
- What effect will global warming have on architecture and interior design?
The Interface Innovations Network
This network was set up to consider the implications of the questions above; to assess the likelihood of these issues becoming reality and also develop solutions that answer the emerging challenges in a sustainable and socially responsible way.
Ultimately, we hope this network will act as an innovations pipeline, keeping us at the forefront of our industry and helping us to evolve in tune with social and environmental expectations.
At the heart of everything we do as a business is our Mission Zero pledge. This is our vision of becoming totally sustainable – and ultimately restorative – by 2020.
This is an ambitious target and we know it won't be easy. It will require radical thinking and action, but we're committed to achieving our aims. Read more about Mission Zero and how we’re working towards meeting our goal.
Sharing our experiences with others
We believe the direction of change can be influenced by empowering people to think about what may be possible and desirable – for their company and customers – in the future. This is why we've set up the InterfaceRAISE consultancy service.
Through InterfaceRAISE we help forward-thinking businesses find ways of placing sustainable practices at the heart of their operations, and enjoy the business rewards of doing so. Read more about InterfaceRAISE.
